Liverpool confirm Salah return for season finale

Liverpool have confirmed that Mohamed Salah is on course to feature again before their final Premier League fixture of the season.

The 33-year-old forward, who is set to depart Anfield this summer, was substituted during Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace.

A club statement released on Wednesday described the setback as a “minor muscle injury” and confirmed he is likely to be available before the final league game against Brentford on May 26.

Salah left the Palace match after what looked like a hamstring issue, though he walked off without assistance and acknowledged the supporters with applause.

After the injury, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk said the Egyptian would still be given a proper farewell, whether or not he plays again for the club.

With the injury now confirmed as minor, Salah is expected to be fit in time to receive his final ovation in front of the Kop on the last day of the season.

The Egyptian winger had already confirmed last month that this campaign would be his last at Anfield, ending long-standing speculation over his future.

“The forward has reached an agreement with the Reds that will see him close a remarkable nine-year chapter at Anfield,” the club said at the time.

“Salah expressed his wish to make this announcement to the supporters at the earliest possible opportunity to provide transparency about his future due to his respect and gratitude for them.”

The development also comes as a boost for Egypt, who begin their World Cup campaign against Belgium on June 15.
