Lookman to miss Atletico, Bilbao clash over injury

Atletico Madrid head coach, Diego Simeone, has confirmed that Ademola Lookman will miss Saturday’s LaLiga clash against Athletic Bilbao due to injury.

The Nigeria international picked up an adductor problem during Atletico’s Copa del Rey final defeat to Real Sociedad last weekend.

The setback occurred in a tightly contested match that ended in disappointment for Simeone’s side.

Since sustaining the injury, Lookman has been sidelined from team activities. He was notably absent in Atletico’s midweek league defeat to Elche CF, as the club opted not to risk him while he continues recovery.

There had been cautious optimism within the Atletico camp that the forward could recover in time for the meeting with Athletic Bilbao at the Metropolitano Stadium.

However, that hope has now been ruled out following the latest assessment.

Simeone confirmed the situation in his pre-match briefing, stating that Lookman is not yet fit enough to return to action.

The coach made it clear that the player is still undergoing recovery work and will not be included in the squad for the weekend fixture.

The timeline for Lookman’s return remains uncertain, as Atletico continue to monitor his progress day by day.

His absence is another setback for Simeone, who is already dealing with fitness concerns within his attacking options as the season approaches a crucial stage.
