Atlético Madrid have reportedly confirmed that Ademola Lookman will be unavailable for selection after picking up an injury.
The forward sustained the setback during Atlético’s defeat to Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey final on Sunday night.
Lookman, 28, had given the Colchoneros a bright start by scoring the opening goal, but his night was cut short shortly after the hour mark when he was substituted for Nicolás González.
The club has yet to disclose the exact nature of the injury.
“Ademola Lookman and Alexander Sørloth finished the Copa del Rey final with discomfort,” a statement on the club’s official website read.
” The club’s medical staff have conducted tests that advise maximum caution to avoid the risk of injury, so they will follow an individualized plan in the coming days, training separately from the group. Their return to training with their teammates will depend on how their discomfort progresses. ”
The Nigeria international only joined Atlético Madrid from Atalanta in January and has since contributed seven goals and four assists in 18 appearances across all competitions under Diego Simeone.
