Four killed, eight injured in Ogun lone crash

A tragic lone accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State has claimed the lives of four people, leaving eight others injured.

The crash, which occurred on Sunday night near Christopher University in the Mowe area, involved a commercial Toyota Hiace bus conveying 13 passengers. Authorities said the incident happened at about 9:18 p.m.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole, attributed the crash to a combination of excessive speed and a tyre burst.

According to him, “The crash involved a Toyota Hiace bus with 13 occupants. Preliminary findings indicate that a tyre burst, coupled with speed violation, caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.”

“Out of the 13 persons involved, four adult males lost their lives, while eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The injured victims were quickly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the deceased were deposited at a morgue,” he said.

Odunsi-Oyewole further disclosed that the wrecked vehicle and passengers’ belongings had been handed over to the police for further investigation.

“The vehicle has been taken into custody by the Motor Traffic Division of the Redeemed Police Station, alongside recovered items for safekeeping and necessary inquiries,” he noted.
