Ogun hospital investigates death of 22-year-old nursing student

The management of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, Ogun State, has commenced an investigation into the death of a 22-year-old Post-Basic Nursing student, Taiwo Godwin, who died while receiving treatment at the facility.

The hospital also sympathised with the deceased’s family, friends, colleagues and members of the nursing community over the incident.

The hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Ajibola Abiola, announced the investigation in a statement issued on Saturday.

A media report on the incident alleged that Godwin, who reportedly had asthma, was taken to the hospital after developing breathing difficulties while playing football.

The report also cited a colleague who alleged that oxygen was not administered to the student despite his worsening condition.

However, the circumstances surrounding his death have yet to be established.

The incident has reportedly heightened concerns, as it was said to be the second death of a nursing student from the same institution at the hospital this year.

Reacting, the hospital management said it had begun investigating the circumstances surrounding Godwin’s death at its General Medical Practice Unit.
