Manchester United legend, Nicky Butt, has expressed his belief that Jose Mourinho would have been the perfect fit to return as manager of the Red Devils.
Speaking to Paddy Power, Butt highlighted Mourinho’s winning mentality and proven ability to deliver trophies as key reasons why he would excel back at Old Trafford.
“He’s a winner and can carry that football club, but the powers that be would never allow it, as they now prefer a manager who focuses solely on coaching rather than controlling recruitment,” Butt said.
He also pointed to the current challenges at Manchester United, suggesting that top managers may be deterred by the club’s existing structure.
“No established manager will want to come to Manchester United without guarantees on budget, time, and control. The structure right now makes it difficult, and they may prefer someone like Michael Carrick instead,” he added.
Mourinho previously managed United between 2016 and 2018, winning the Europa League and League Cup before leaving under strained circumstances.
