The Delta State Police Command has reported fresh gains in its operations against kidnapping and cult-related crimes, following the rescue of abducted victims in separate incidents across the state.
State Police Commas Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the development, noting that the command remains determined to curb rising insecurity along inter-state and rural roads.
He disclosed that on February 2, 2026, at about 9:30 pm, five armed men suspected to be kidnappers allegedly blocked the Ewu–Ajekuta Road and abducted four occupants of a Toyota Sienna.
The daring attack, which occurred under the cover of darkness, he said, reflects the boldness of criminal gangs operating along the country’s highways.
“Following a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Otu-Jeremi swiftly mobilised operatives in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilantes from the Ewu community.
“After a sustained pursuit, the abducted victims were successfully rescued and taken to a hospital for medical treatment”, Edafe stated.
He added that two expended 7.5mm ammunition were recovered from the scene, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
In a separate operation carried out on February 3, 2026, officers from the Ibusa Division raided a suspected cult gathering at Anioma Garden in Ugboli Quarters, Ibusa, following credible intelligence.
Edafe said one suspect, identified as Michael Ayauze, was arrested, and preliminary investigations allegedly connected him to the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.
He noted that a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of an English Beretta pistol, a live round of ammunition, and assorted charms, while other suspected cult members escaped during the operation.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping, cultism and other violent crimes, urging residents to remain alert and provide timely information to security agencies.
