Divine direction, service motive behind my gov bid – Oriyomi Hamzat

Oriyomi Hamzat

Popular Ibadan-based broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat, has given reasons for his decision to join the race for the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, saying his ambition is guided by divine conviction and a desire to serve the people.

Hamzat, who recently declared his interest under the platform of the Accord Party, spoke on Monday during a live programme on Agidigbo FM, where he appreciated supporters who turned out for his declaration rally at Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, over the weekend.

According to him, the decision to seek the state’s highest office was taken after wide consultations and deep reflection.

“I listened to those who supported me and those who cautioned me. I took everything to God, and I received approval to proceed,” he said. “I cannot disobey God because I want to satisfy human expectations.”

Responding to concerns raised by some advisers, the broadcaster noted that their warnings were motivated by goodwill, but insisted that his conscience and faith compelled him to move forward.

“If this decision has offended anyone, I ask for your forgiveness and your continued support,” he added.

Hamzat explained that his aspiration was driven by a commitment to honest leadership and public service, which he said is lacking in the current political space.

“My intention is to serve the people sincerely and not to join the league of corrupt politicians. I am confident of victory because the people are with me,” he said. “I did not mobilise anyone with money to attend the rally.”

He also dismissed fears that he could be frustrated out of the contest, saying such concerns no longer worry him.

“I have moved beyond the fear of losing or being rigged out. What I ask for now is your support,” he stated.

At the rally on Saturday, Hamzat formally announced his entry into partisan politics, stressing that his decision was not motivated by personal ambition or material advantage.

“I never planned to become a politician. Until now, I only supported others,” he said. “Today, I am declaring my intention to contest the 2027 Oyo governorship election on the platform of Accord.”

The broadcaster further said he was not relying on wealth, political godfathers or government backing.

“I have no money, no strong political connections, and no support from the government in power,” Hamzat said. “I have come with God, and that is enough.”
