Alexander Sørloth’s second-half header was enough to secure Atlético Madrid a narrow 1–0 La Liga victory over struggling Alavés on Sunday.
The Norwegian forward broke the deadlock three minutes after the restart, powering a header from close range after Pablo Barrios delivered a precise cross from the right. The effort clipped the far post before nestling in the net.
It marked Sørloth’s 10th league start of the campaign, with the striker now boasting six goals this season, half of them coming via headers.
Alavés, who remain without a win in five league outings, threatened a late response and went close to snatching an equaliser on several occasions at the Metropolitano, but Atlético held firm.
The visitors’ poor run continues, having lost seven of their last nine league matches, with their only recent success a 1–0 victory over Real Sociedad in December.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Valencia climbed out of the relegation zone thanks to a late 1–0 away win at Getafe, sealed by José Gayà’s decisive 84th-minute strike.
The result snapped Valencia’s six-game winless run, while Getafe extended their own drought to six matches, suffering five defeats in that span.
Later in the day, league leaders Barcelona were set to face Real Sociedad, while second-placed Real Madrid had already claimed a 2–0 home win over Levante on Saturday.
