Lyon’s struggles continued on Sunday as their winless run across all competitions stretched to five matches following a frustrating stalemate against bottom-placed Auxerre in Ligue 1.
The visitors, weakened by injuries and suspensions, were spared an even worse outcome thanks to goalkeeper Dominik Greif, who denied Lassine Sinayoko from the penalty spot in the first half.
The spot kick was awarded after Moussa Niakhaté clattered into Sekou Mara inside the box.
Mara had earlier seen a goal disallowed as Auxerre’s own scoreless streak extended to five games, while their winless run reached eight since the 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
Mara threatened again after the break, but Lyon came close to snatching a late winner when Afonso Moreira forced a sharp save from Donovan Leon in stoppage time.
Elsewhere in Ligue 1, Lille was set to take on FC Paris later in the day following Toulouse’s clash with Angers. Nantes faced Lorient, while Brest met Metz in key relegation battles.
PSG remained top of the table, holding a two-point lead over Marseille after both sides secured victories over the weekend.
