Paris Saint-Germain snatched another dramatic late victory to reclaim the top spot in Ligue 1 for the second consecutive weekend.
Following last Saturday’s last-minute triumph over Nice, PSG once again found a winner in stoppage time, with João Neves heading home a decisive goal against Lyon in a thrilling 3-2 encounter.
Lyon showed great resilience, twice responding after falling behind. Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ stunning equaliser early in the second half seemed to have secured a point for the hosts, but a chaotic finale, including a red card for Nicolás Tagliafico, allowed PSG to snatch all three points.
The midweek Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich had not only cost PSG in Europe but also left the squad further weakened.
Key players Ousmane Dembélé, Achraf Hakimi, Nuno Mendes, and Désiré Doué were all sidelined, leaving manager Luis Enrique with a depleted lineup.
PSG started brightly despite the absences, and it paid off in the 26th minute. Vitinha’s pinpoint pass found teenager Warren Zaïre-Emery on the right, and the young forward fired past Dominik Greif to give the visitors the lead.
Lyon responded quickly, with Moussa Niakhaté setting up Afonso Moreira to equalise just four minutes later. However, PSG regained the advantage almost immediately when Vitinha’s clever delivery found Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
Lyon continued to press, and Tagliafico’s effort off the post was a warning before Maitland-Niles’ remarkable volley chipped Chevalier to make it 2-2 early in the second half.
The match looked to be heading for a draw until Tagliafico’s second yellow card in added time left Lyon down to ten men. From the resulting corner, Neves rose highest to nod PSG into a 3-2 lead, sending the away fans into raptures.
The victory restores PSG’s two-point advantage over Marseille at the summit, while Lyon remain seventh, seven points behind the leaders.
