Manchester United’s impressive winning run came to an end after being held to a 2-2 draw by Nottingham Forest in Saturday’s Premier League encounter.
Ruben Amorim’s men had to rely on a late moment of brilliance from Amad Diallo, whose stunning volley rescued a point for the visitors with less than ten minutes remaining, following two quick-fire goals from Forest early in the second half.
A win would have seen United climb to second place, at least temporarily, extending what had been their best spell under Amorim.
However, as the Portuguese boss marked his one-year anniversary at the helm, his side could only manage a draw, with several of their high-profile forwards struggling to make an impact against a Forest team still battling in the relegation zone.
United began strongly, with Amad forcing a sharp save from goalkeeper Matz Sels and Benjamin Sesko miscontrolling a fine through ball from Bryan Mbeumo.
Their pressure paid off just after the half-hour mark when Casemiro nodded home a Bruno Fernandes corner. Forest players protested, insisting the ball had gone out of play before the corner was taken, but the goal stood, giving United a 1-0 lead at the break.
Forest, however, came out rejuvenated after halftime and turned the game around in a dramatic three-minute spell.
Morgan Gibbs-White equalised with a precise header into the far corner, before Nicolo Savona was left unmarked to prod the ball past Senne Lammens, putting the hosts in front.
United pressed for an equaliser, with Casemiro twice going close and Fernandes rattling the post from distance.
Just as it seemed Forest would hold on, Amad produced a moment of magic, a superb left-footed volley from the edge of the box that flew beyond Sels to make it 2-2.
The Ivorian almost completed the turnaround in stoppage time when his strike beat Sels but was cleared off the line by Murillo, leaving United to settle for a single point instead of all three.
