Atletico Madrid boss, Diego Simeone, has poured cold water on rumours linking Argentine striker Julián Álvarez with a move away from the Spanish capital.
The 24-year-old forward has recently been the subject of intense speculation, with reports suggesting that Barcelona have identified him as a potential long-term replacement for veteran striker, Robert Lewandowski.
Simeone, however, has made it clear that Álvarez remains an integral part of his plans at Atletico Madrid.
The coach expressed confidence in the player’s happiness and commitment to the club, emphasizing that there is no indication he wants to leave.
“I don’t interfere with contracts, but I can see that he enjoys being here,” Simeone told the club’s official website. “The club knows what’s best for the club. I can see that Julián is fully committed.”
The Argentine tactician’s comments come amid growing interest in Álvarez following his impressive performances since joining Atletico.
The forward has quickly become a fan favourite with his work rate, creativity, and ability to deliver in crucial moments, qualities that have caught the attention of top European clubs.
Meanwhile, Álvarez’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, also moved to shut down the transfer speculation.
“Nothing that’s being written is true. It’s pure speculation,” he said, reaffirming that the player is focused solely on his career with Atletico Madrid.
