The Kano State Hisba Board has arrested 25 individuals for allegedly organising and participating in a same-sex marriage ceremony in the Hotoro area of Kano metropolis.
The Deputy Commander of the Hisba Board, Mujahedeen Aminudeen, confirmed the arrest in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday, describing the incident as “a gross violation of the state’s moral and religious values.”
According to Aminudeen, the suspects — comprising 18 males and seven females — were apprehended during a raid at the Fatima Event Centre, located along the Hotoro bypass, where the ceremony was allegedly taking place.
“On Saturday, October 25, 2025, we received credible intelligence that some individuals were organising a same-sex marriage at the Fatima Event Centre,” he said.
“Our personnel immediately swung into action, stormed the venue, and successfully arrested 25 persons — 18 males and seven females — including the groom.”
He explained that the suspects hailed from various parts of Kano, including Sheka, Yar Gaya, and Kofar Nasarawa. The board, he said, acted swiftly to prevent what it described as “an unlawful and immoral gathering.”
“The Hisba Board will not fold its arms and allow individuals to tarnish the moral and religious image of Kano State,” Aminudeen declared. “We are calling on residents to cooperate with the board by reporting immoral activities taking place in their communities.”
He added that the operation was part of the board’s ongoing efforts to enforce public morality and preserve the cultural values of the state.
“The board remains committed to raiding all venues or gatherings that promote acts deemed immoral or contrary to the teachings of Islam,” he said.
