Kano woman dies after delivering quintuplets

A woman in Kano State, Hafsatu Yusuf, has died shortly after giving birth to quintuplets at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.

The development was confirmed on Thursday by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Ministry of Health, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, during a telephone interview.

According to him, the woman passed away around 2 a.m. at the hospital following complications after childbirth.

“She had been bleeding since after delivery, and all efforts by doctors to control the situation were unsuccessful,” he said.

K/Na’isa explained that the quintuplets three boys and two girls were successfully delivered and are currently in stable condition while receiving medical care at the facility.

He added that the deceased has since been buried in line with Islamic rites at her residence in Hotoro.

“We are appealing to the public to support the babies with milk and other essential items,” he said.

The incident occurred barely a day after the Kano State Government announced that it had taken responsibility for the medical care of the mother and her newborns following the delivery.

In an earlier statement, the ministry had confirmed that both the mother and the babies were placed under close medical supervision after the successful birth.

The husband of the deceased, Malam Salisu Nufi’u, had earlier expressed gratitude to the state government for its intervention, describing it as timely.

The state government also reiterated its commitment to improving maternal and child healthcare and reducing mortality rates across Kano State.
