Police arrest suspected killers, recover arms in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a key suspect allegedly involved in the abduction and murder of a commercial motorcyclist in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda.

According to the statement, on October 7, 2025, the Agbor Police Division received a report about a missing person identified as Friday Orumgbe, aged 53, of Idumu Oza, Agbor, who left home on October 6 with his Lifan motorcycle but never returned.

“Acting on the report, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Michael Obekpa, immediately ordered a discreet investigation into the disappearance. Following sustained intelligence efforts, police operatives arrested one Musa Buhari, 25, of Alihagu Village, Agbor, on October 16, 2025, and recovered the victim’s Tecno T101 handset from him,” Edafe said.

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed that he and one Manu Usman (currently at large) had posed as passengers before luring the victim into a bush along Power Line near Oki, Agbor.

“They attacked him with a hoe, rendering him unconscious before stealing his motorcycle and phone,” the police spokesman added.

Edafe further stated that on October 17, 2025, the suspect led police operatives to the crime scene, where the decomposing body of the victim was found.

“The remains were identified by family members and have been deposited at the Central Hospital Mortuary, Agbor, for autopsy,” he confirmed.

Meanwhile, in another operation, officers of the ‘B’ Division, Warri, arrested a suspected cultist and armed robbery gang member, recovering a locally made cut-to-size double-barrel gun, a live cartridge, and an expended cartridge.

The statement explained that on October 19, 2025, operatives on night patrol in the Ubeji community intercepted a gold-coloured Lexus 350 SUV with two occupants—Christian Agbajor Akpos (33) and Sophia Thomas (26).

“When interrogated, the suspects could not provide a satisfactory account of their movement at such an hour. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the firearm, a battle axe, and ammunition,” Edafe said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Akpos is a member of the Maphite Confraternity and the Neo-Black Movement.

“He confessed that the gun was handed to him by one Mr. Shimaye, identified as the Deputy Chairman of the Ubeji community,” the statement added.

Both suspects are in custody as investigations continue to track down other members of the gang.

Commending the officers for their swift response, CP Abaniwonda praised their “professionalism and commitment to duty.”

He reiterated the Command’s resolve to rid the state of criminals through proactive and intelligence-driven policing.

“The Delta State Police Command remains steadfast in its mission to protect lives and property. We will continue to strengthen community partnerships and deploy intelligence-led operations across all divisions,” Abaniwonda assured.

In recent months, the Command has recorded major operational breakthroughs, including the arrest of 211 suspects and the recovery of ₦8.5 million ransom, 18 firearms, and over 350 rounds of ammunition. In early October 2025, officers also intercepted 400 rounds of live ammunition at the Asaba Bridge Head during a stop-and-search operation.
