Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, has reportedly predicted that Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim could be sacked before Christmas.
Amorim Under Pressure Amid Man United’s Slow Start
The 40-year-old Portuguese tactician has faced mounting criticism after United’s underwhelming start to the season, despite the club investing heavily in the summer following a disappointing 15th-place finish last term.
United managed to ease some of the pressure on Amorim with a 2-0 victory over Sunderland on Saturday, a result that sent them into the international break sitting 10th in the Premier League table with three wins, one draw, and three defeats so far.
Carragher Predicts Early Exit for Amorim
As reported by the Daily Mail, Carragher made the bold claim during The Overlap Fan Debate, describing Amorim’s spell at Old Trafford as a “disaster” for both the coach and the club.
Although the former England international said he generally avoids calling for managers to be dismissed, he insisted Amorim’s situation has become untenable.
“I don’t like saying a manager should be sacked, it’s disrespectful and it’s a man’s job – but I’m at that point where I do think Ruben Amorim’s job is untenable,” Carragher said.
“It’s inevitable that this is going to happen before Christmas.
“His stats are unbelievable for a Manchester United manager – 50 games as Manchester United manager, he’s only scored two more goals than he’s conceded.”
The Red Devils will aim to build on their recent win over the Black Cats when they return from the international break with a high-stakes showdown against fierce rivals Liverpool at Anfield.
