Jan Paul van Hecke’s late header snatched a dramatic 1-1 draw for Brighton, leaving Wolves still searching for their first Premier League victory of the season.
Wolves, who had previously seen a last-minute defeat to Tottenham, looked set to finally claim three points when Marshall Munetsi’s powerful header ricocheted off the bar and into Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen for the opener.
However, Van Hecke struck four minutes from time to deny Vitor Pereira’s struggling side another milestone win.
The match’s first flashpoint came off the pitch, as Wolves manager Pereira received a red card in the first half for kicking the ball in frustration over what he perceived as a foul on João Gomes by Carlos Baleba.
Despite the setback, Wolves surged ahead shortly afterward, with Munetsi capitalizing on a perfect rebound to put the hosts in front.
Brighton keeper Sam Johnstone was crucial, pulling off five key saves to keep his side in contention.
Wolves, meanwhile, created several opportunities to extend their lead, with Ladislav Krejcí’s header from Hugo Bueno’s cross tipped over the bar by Verbruggen and Jørgen Strand Larsen missing a close-range effort after a slick counterattack. Strand Larsen would later strike the outside of the post as Wolves came close again.
Brighton, never fully out of the game, finally made their pressure count in the closing minutes. Maxim De Cuyper’s short corner found Van Hecke, who powered a header past Johnstone to secure a point and leave both teams still seeking their first clean sheet of the campaign.
For Wolves, it marked a second consecutive heartbreaker late in a match, continuing a frustrating run that sees them struggling at the foot of the Premier League table.
