Qarabag continued their impressive start to the Champions League campaign by securing a 2-0 win over Copenhagen in Baku on Tuesday night.
The victory makes it back-to-back group-stage triumphs for the Azerbaijani champions, who had stunned Benfica 3-2 in Lisbon just a week earlier.
The breakthrough came in the 28th minute when Pedro Bicalho’s powerful strike from distance rattled the upright.
The rebound fell kindly to captain Abdellah Zoubir, who reacted quickest inside the penalty area and calmly tucked the ball past the Copenhagen goalkeeper to ignite the home crowd.
Copenhagen, who had drawn their opening fixture against Bayer Leverkusen, struggled to break down a well-organized Qarabag defense.
Despite enjoying spells of possession, the Danish side created few clear opportunities, with the hosts looking more dangerous on the counterattack throughout the contest.
Qarabag doubled their advantage late in the game thanks to substitute Emmanuel Addai. The Ghanaian forward, introduced to add fresh legs in attack, produced a moment of individual brilliance in the 83rd minute.
Collecting a pass from Nariman Akhundzada, Addai surged forward before unleashing a low drive from outside the area that nestled into the bottom corner.
The result leaves Qarabag in a strong position in their group, while Copenhagen will need to regroup ahead of a tricky home clash against Borussia Dortmund on October 21.
Qarabag, meanwhile, will travel to Spain the following day for a potentially decisive meeting with Athletic Bilbao as they look to keep their dream run alive.
