S’Eagles’ Onyedika faces six-week layoff over hamstring injury

Super Eagles midfielder, Raphael Onyedika, is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury that will rule him out for approximately six weeks.

The Club Brugge star picked up the setback during his side’s pulsating 5-5 draw with Westerlo on Wednesday night, forcing him off the pitch as early as the 16th minute.

Onyedika’s absence comes as a major setback for Nicky Hayen’s men, who face a demanding run of fixtures in the coming weeks.

Brugge travel to Standard Liege for a league clash on Saturday before heading to Italy for a Champions League showdown with Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium next Tuesday.

They will then welcome reigning Belgian champions Union Saint-Gilloise ahead of the international break.

The 23-year-old has been a consistent presence this season, featuring in eight league matches and finding the net in the emphatic 4-0 Champions League victory over French side AS Monaco last week.

However, the injury blow also means Onyedika is unlikely to be available for Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying games against Lesotho and Benin Republic scheduled for next month.
