Former Manchester United assistant coach,Rene Meulensteen, has suggested that the club’s struggles under Ruben Amorim are more about tactics than talent.
United have endured a nightmare start to the season, recording just one Premier League victory and suffering an embarrassing EFL Cup exit to League Two side Grimsby Town , their worst-ever opening to a campaign.
Meulensteen, speaking to BetVictor, argued that Amorim’s philosophy is not bringing the best out of the squad, despite heavy summer investment on players such as Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.
“The most important thing is having a manager who sets out a clear structure the players can believe in, one that sparks their best qualities,” he said. “This squad is not short of quality. If they were playing in a system that suited them, we’d see a completely different Manchester United.”
The Dutchman even hinted that former United midfielder Michael Carrick could be a better fit for the role. “It’s not about magic , it’s about common sense. And Carrick has plenty of that.”
