Super Eagles attacker Ademola Lookman is set to stay with Atalanta for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
Sky Sport, via Football Italia, reported Monday evening that Lookman could be available for new head coach Ivan Juric as early as Atalanta’s Serie A opener against Pisa this weekend.
Inter, who were long considered frontrunners to sign the Nigerian international, have officially informed Atalanta that they are withdrawing from the pursuit of Lookman.
European transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Lookman’s representatives are being kept fully informed about the latest developments.
Romano noted that while La Liga powerhouse Atlético Madrid still have some interest in the African Player of the Year, “currently there are no talks ongoing between the clubs or representatives.”
As it stands, Lookman will return to Atalanta. Although he publicly expressed a desire to leave the club this summer, it now appears that a move may not materialize.
“There remains two more weeks of the transfer window,” Romano added, suggesting that Lookman’s wish to depart could still open the door for a club willing to meet Atalanta’s asking price.
The Super Eagles’ coaching staff will be hoping for a swift resolution to the forward’s transfer saga, as Lookman is expected to play a key role in next month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Currently, Nigeria sit fourth in Group C with seven points, and they must win their remaining four matches to keep their hopes of qualifying alive.
