Police nab two over viral one-chance robbery video in Oyo

Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested two suspected members of a notorious one-chance robbery syndicate following the circulation of a viral video that exposed their alleged criminal activities in Ibadan.

The suspects, identified as 42-year-old Kolawole Moshood from the Olomoyeye Muslim area and 45-year-old Opeyemi Kuburat from Beyerunka, were apprehended on July 12, 2025, after coordinated intelligence work by officers attached to the Command Monitoring Unit.

Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, said in a press statement on Wednesday that the duo were tracked to the Old Ibadan/Oyo Road around 3:30 pm. “Following actionable intelligence, operatives from our Tactical Units swung into action and located the suspects. A Nissan Almera with registration number Lagos FST 779 DL, believed to be used for their criminal operations, was also recovered during the operation,” Osifeso said.

According to the police, the suspects confessed to being active members of a robbery syndicate operating in Ibadan and nearby areas. “They admitted to using the recovered vehicle to deceive and rob unsuspecting victims,” the statement read.

So far, three individuals have reportedly come forward to identify the suspects as those who robbed them in separate incidents.

Osifeso urged other victims to assist law enforcement by identifying the suspects to strengthen the ongoing investigation and aid in their prosecution. “We are calling on more victims of this gang to step forward. Your cooperation is critical to ensuring justice is served and other accomplices are brought to book,” he appealed.

The Command assured residents of its continued commitment to public safety and called on citizens to report emergencies using the provided police contact lines: 615 (toll-free), 08081768614, 09054133071, and 09061299291.

“The Oyo State Police Command remains steadfast in its responsibility to protect life and property across the state,” Osifeso emphasized.
