The Oyo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a viral video in which a man, identified as Shawama, allegedly confessed to killing 32 people.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the Command had no prior record of the suspect’s arrest but was treating the claims with utmost seriousness.

“As a responsible and responsive agency, the Command has initiated a thorough investigation into the allegations and the confessional statements contained in the video,” Olayinka stated.

He explained that the police were deploying modern tools, including digital forensics and analysis of online footprints, to verify the authenticity of the claims and track down the individual.

The Command also called on members of the public to support the ongoing investigation by providing useful information that could help identify and apprehend the suspect and any possible accomplices.

He assured residents that the police would keep the public informed as the investigation progresses.

In the widely circulated video, recorded in Yoruba, the man claimed responsibility for multiple killings in Ibadan, saying, “When they attempted to cause trouble in Ibadan, I killed 32.”

He further alleged that security agencies had not only released him but also commended his actions.

The video also featured other individuals expressing political support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
