A political group in northern Nigeria, The Arewa Consensus for Jonathan, has called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to run in the 2027 presidential election.
Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, is recognized for his contributions to democratic growth and his peaceful transition of power after losing the 2015 election.
Although he stepped back from active politics, his name continues to be a prominent topic in discussions about the country’s leadership future.
During a press conference in Bauchi over the weekend, Munir Musa, the leader of the Arewa Consensus for Jonathan, emphasized the importance of Jonathan’s return to office.
He argued that Nigeria’s current economic downturn and escalating security challenges require a leader with Jonathan’s experience and track record of governance to restore national stability, according to Leadership.
Musa further stated that Nigeria is at a critical juncture, and Jonathan’s leadership is seen as key to addressing the country’s problems.
The group expressed confidence that his experience could guide the nation toward healing and usher in a new era of progress.
“The nation is at a crossroads, and we believe that Goodluck Jonathan is the right man to steer us out of the current malaise,” Musa said.
