A Commissioner in Ebonyi State, Felix Igboke, has resigned from his position in the All Progressives Congress and defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring the move a “homecoming” to the party where his political journey began.
Igboke, who previously served as Commissioner for Project Monitoring, announced his resignation and defection on Sunday during a political gathering in Isu, Onicha Local Government Area of the state.
He said his decision was driven by the need to align with a platform he believes is better positioned to advance development and represent the interests of citizens ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“I am happy to return to the political platform that built me,” Igboke said. “I served as a councillor, development centre coordinator, and chairman of Onicha Local Government Area under the same party before I joined the APC.”
He added that his return to the PDP was not just personal but part of a broader political realignment in the state.
“I am grateful to the PDP family in Ebonyi State, especially the party’s governorship candidate, Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii,” he said.
According to him, the defection also included more than 10,000 supporters who followed him from the APC to the PDP, describing the development as evidence of growing grassroots political support.
The Ebonyi State PDP chairman, Chukwuma Igwe, welcomed the defectors, describing Igboke’s return as a significant boost to the party’s strength ahead of the next election cycle.
“This is a major addition to our party,” Igwe said. “The influx of supporters shows that the PDP is gaining renewed confidence across the state.”
Also speaking at the event, the PDP candidate for Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency, Eni-Uduma Chima, said the party was witnessing rapid expansion across Ebonyi State and expressed optimism about future electoral victories.
He urged party members to remain united and strengthen party structures at the grassroots level, noting that internal cohesion would be key to success in 2027.
The defection event was attended by party members, community leaders, and supporters from various parts of the state.
