A Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League side, Ngezi Platinum Stars, have reportedly suspended their head coach, Takesure Chiragwi, after he allegedly slapped one of his players during a recent league fixture.
The altercation, which involved midfielder McDonald Makuwe, reportedly took place a few weeks ago during Ngezi’s encounter with Dynamos FC. Witnesses claim Chiragwi struck Makuwe on the bench in a moment of frustration.
Reports suggest that tempers flared after Dynamos netted an equaliser, a goal that Ngezi officials believed should have been disallowed.
Enraged by the decision, Chiragwi stormed towards the match officials in protest.
However, when Makuwe tried to calm him down, the coach lashed out, slapping the player in full view of fans and cameras.
According to The Herald Online (via Kick Off), Chiragwi has since received a three-match suspension.
Meanwhile, the Premier Soccer League’s disciplinary committee has reportedly opened a formal investigation into the incident.
