Nigeria will have to face the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday without the services of Wilfred Ndidi.
The Super Eagles secured a 4-1 victory over Gabon’s Panthers on Thursday in Rabat, Morocco, booking their spot in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoffs.
Ndidi received a yellow card in the sixth minute of the intense match for a reckless challenge on Dennis Bounaga, marking his second booking of the qualifiers.
His first came against Rwanda’s Amavubi on matchday five in Kigali.
Despite the caution, the 29-year-old midfielder delivered a strong performance, setting up Chidera Ejuke for Nigeria’s second goal.
Ndidi’s absence opens the door for Brentford’s defensive midfielder Frank Onyeka to step in, while Club Brugge’s Raphael Onyedika is another viable option for the central midfield role.
