AFCON: I’ll pay S’Eagles’ bonuses if FG delays, says Ndidi

Super Eagles captain, Wilfred Ndidi, has vowed to personally pay the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations match bonuses to players and staff if the funds are not released by Saturday.

Ndidi made the declaration as he encouraged his teammates to remain focused, revealing that he had been motivating the squad to train and play since their second tournament match against Tunisia.

The development was reported on Thursday by BBC journalist Oluwashina Okeleji via X, following confirmation from Deputy Finance Minister Doris Uzoka-Anite that the federal government has expedited the processing of outstanding payments. Uzoka-Anite said the team should start receiving their bonuses either immediately or by Friday.

“I’ve been pushing the team to train and play the game vs Algeria,” Ndidi told Okeleji. “I’ve been doing this since the second game. I’ve now made a commitment to the staff and players that I’ll personally pay the bonuses if the authority fails to before Saturday.”

He added, “I don’t want these unpaid bonuses to affect our preparations. I told players and coaching staff that I’d personally make the payments if they don’t get it.”

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles arrived in Marrakech on Thursday evening, with training scheduled later in the day as the team awaits the release of the pending bonuses ahead of their quarterfinal clash against Algeria on Saturday.
