Saudi Arabian club Al Diriyah are set to return with an improved offer for Besiktas midfielder and Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi after their initial bid was turned down by the Turkish side.
Al Diriyah are determined to sign the Nigerian midfielder and are preparing a higher proposal after Besiktas rejected their €7m opening offer.
According to Turkish sports daily Fanatik, the Saudi club has identified Ndidi as a key target as it seeks to bolster its midfield options ahead of the new season.
Ndidi joined Besiktas from Leicester City last summer and has since grown into an important figure at the Istanbul-based club.
His experience, leadership and defensive strength have made him a valuable member of the squad.
The 29-year-old recently demonstrated his importance to the team after contributing to Besiktas’ 1-0 win over FC Hradec Kralove at the Malsovicka Arena in a UEFA Conference League qualifier.
Ndidi, who had only recently returned from an injury layoff, came on as a second-half substitute and made an immediate impact.
He provided the assist for Semih Kilicsoy, who scored the decisive goal late in the encounter.
His performances have continued to attract attention from clubs outside Turkey, with increasing speculation surrounding a possible move to Saudi Arabia.
Besiktas are also reportedly making contingency plans should Ndidi leave the club.
The Turkish giants are said to be negotiating with Ivory Coast international Franck Kessie over a possible free transfer.
The potential arrival of Kessie could provide Besiktas with an experienced replacement if the club eventually agrees to sell Ndidi to Al Diriyah.
