Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday led a high-powered delegation of political leaders from the state to pay Sallah homage to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his private residence in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The visit, which comes during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, was described by Governor Sanwo-Olu as a long-standing tradition and a symbolic gesture of unity and goodwill during festive periods.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the courtesy call was an opportunity to extend warm Sallah greetings to President Tinubu and reaffirm Lagos State’s unwavering support for his administration.
“As is tradition during festive periods, whenever he comes around, we — the Governance Advisory Council and leaders of the All Progressives Congress — come to felicitate with Mr. President,” Sanwo-Olu said. “It’s something we always look forward to. This is no exception. We have come to pray with him and to tell him that Lagosians are behind him.”
The governor also praised President Tinubu’s performance in office, expressing confidence in the direction of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We can see and feel the impacts of what he has done in the last two years,” the governor stated.
Among the dignitaries who accompanied Sanwo-Olu on the visit were the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa; Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; APC Lagos State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi; Senators Tokunbo Abiru and Ganiyu Solomon; and the Chairman of the Governance Advisory Council, Prince Tajudeen Olusi. Other prominent figures included APC stalwart Cardinal James Odunmbaku and several party leaders from across Lagos State.
Addressing the issue of the alleged rift, he said, “… There’s none. You see there are people that believe there are more Catholic than the Pope. There are things that you see people…they cry more than the bereaved.
“Father and son are things that we always always ensure that we clear. There’s nothing at all, he’s my father, he’s my leader and we’re grateful that he’s given us the audience today to come in and say hello to him.”
