Veteran Nollywood actor and screenwriter, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, will be buried in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, August 24, 2026.
Hassan died at about 3 p.m. on Sunday at the age of 66, according to a burial announcement by veteran actor Jide Kosoko.
Kosoko announced that the late actor’s remains would be taken to Ilaro on Sunday ahead of a lying-in-state ceremony scheduled for Monday.
In the announcement, Kosoko said, “With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who passed away at 3:00 p.m. today, Sunday, 23rd August 2026, at 66 years.”
He added that the lying-in-state ceremony would take place at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Pavillon in Ilaro.
The Ilaro Muslim Community also confirmed the burial arrangements, announcing that the burial prayer would hold at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground at 10 a.m. on Monday.
The announcement read, “Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. The Ilaro Muslim Community wishes to announce the burial of our beloved brother, Alhaji Hassan Taiwo (Ogogo).”
Hassan’s death came days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, appealed publicly for medical assistance for their father, who had been battling stage-four cancer.
Kaira had disclosed on social media on August 17 that doctors had told the family they could no longer administer chemotherapy because of his condition.
The death of the veteran actor has sparked reactions across the Nigerian film industry, particularly among colleagues and admirers of Yoruba-language cinema.
Hassan was widely recognised for his roles in Yoruba films and his contributions to the growth of the Nigerian entertainment industry.
