Iran’s Agriculture Minister, Gholamreza Nouri, has said that a United States naval blockade has had minimal effect on the country’s ability to supply essential goods and food items, pointing to strong domestic production and diversified import channels.
Speaking on Tuesday, Nouri maintained that Iran’s food supply system remains stable despite external pressure.
He attributed this resilience to the country’s geographical size and access to multiple border routes for trade and imports.
“Despite the US naval blockade, we have no problem in supplying basic goods and food because, due to the size of the country, it is possible to import from different borders,” Agriculture Minister Gholamreza Nouri said on Tuesday.
He further stressed that Iran’s domestic agricultural capacity plays a central role in maintaining food security, significantly reducing dependence on foreign supply chains for essential commodities.
“About 85 percent of agricultural products and basic goods are produced domestically, so the country’s food security is established,” he added, according to the official IRNA news agency.
The comments come amid heightened tensions following the reported imposition of a US naval blockade on Iran’s ports and coastal areas on April 13, shortly after a ceasefire announcement that temporarily halted hostilities in the region.
Iran has strongly condemned the blockade, describing it as a violation of the ceasefire agreement.
