UCL: Tresoldi bags hattrick as Club Brugge stun Inter 4-3

Club Brugge stunned Inter Milan 4-3 in a thrilling UEFA Champions League encounter at the San Siro on Tuesday, with Nicolo Tresoldi scoring a hat-trick to inspire the Belgian side to victory.

The visitors secured a memorable win in the second round of the league phase after a seven-goal contest in which the lead changed hands four times.

Inter started brightly, creating several opportunities through Marcus Thuram, Lautaro Martinez and Federico Dimarco.

However, Club Brugge took the lead in the 30th minute after Hakan Calhanoglu fouled Carlos Forbs inside the penalty area.

Tresoldi converted the resulting spot-kick to put the visitors ahead.

The hosts responded just before half-time when Dimarco supplied a clever pass for Martinez, who finished from inside the box in the 44th minute to restore parity.

Club Brugge regained the advantage in the 63rd minute following a costly error by Inter goalkeeper Josep Martinez.

The goalkeeper ventured well outside his penalty area, allowing Forbs to dispossess him before setting up Tresoldi to score into an empty net.

Tresoldi completed his hat-trick 11 minutes later, capitalising on a rebound after Forbs’ effort was saved by Josep Martinez to extend the visitors’ lead to 3-1.

Inter refused to give up, reducing the deficit in the 81st minute.

Sucic forced a save from Club Brugge goalkeeper Yann Sommer, but Lautaro Martinez reacted quickest to convert the rebound and make it 3-2.

However, Romeo Vermant restored Club Brugge’s two-goal cushion six minutes later, lifting the ball over the goalkeeper to make it 4-2.
