UCL: Salah shines as Liverpool crush Galatasaray 4-0 to reach quarter-finals

Mohamed Salah delivered a landmark performance at Anfield, scoring a stunning 50th UEFA Champions League goal as Liverpool FC powered into the quarter-finals with a commanding 4-0 victory over Galatasaray on Wednesday night.

The emphatic win sealed a 4-1 aggregate turnaround for the Reds, who will now face reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain in the last eight, a rematch of last season’s clash that saw the English side eliminated.

Having trailed after the first leg in Istanbul, Liverpool responded in dominant fashion. Dominik Szoboszlai sparked the comeback in the 25th minute, arriving late into the box to finish off a cleverly worked set-piece and bring the tie level.

The hosts created a flurry of chances before halftime but were left frustrated, most notably when Salah saw his penalty saved by Uğurcan Çakır deep into stoppage time.

Salah, however, made amends after the break. The Egyptian forward turned provider, sliding in a low cross for Hugo Ekitike to put Liverpool ahead on aggregate.

Moments later, his powerful effort was parried into the path of Ryan Gravenberch, who reacted quickest to extend the lead.

Then came the highlight of the night. Cutting in from the right, Salah curled a brilliant left-footed strike into the net in the 62nd minute, reaching the 50-goal milestone in Europe’s elite competition — becoming the first African player to achieve the feat.

Liverpool’s intensity and attacking sharpness overwhelmed Galatasaray, who struggled to pose any real threat, particularly after Victor Osimhen failed to return for the second half due to injury.

Backed by a roaring Anfield crowd, Arne Slot’s side produced one of their most complete displays of the season, combining relentless pressing with clinical finishing to secure a memorable European night.

While questions remain about their inconsistency in domestic fixtures, this performance reaffirmed Liverpool’s credentials on the continental stage as they march into a high-stakes quarter-final showdown.
