Arsenal have received a significant lift as captain Martin Odegaard returned to training ahead of their Champions League meeting with Bayern Munich, according to The Standard.
The midfielder, who has been out since early October with a knee problem, is now close to full fitness and is pushing to feature at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Viktor Gyokeres has yet to resume training. The striker has missed Arsenal’s last three matches after suffering a hamstring injury during the game against Burnley on November 1.
The Gunners have struggled with limited attacking options in recent weeks, but the situation is beginning to improve.
Both Gabriel Martinelli and Noni Madueke were back in the squad for the 4-1 victory over Tottenham at the weekend, with Madueke coming on for the final stages of the match.
Gabriel Jesus has also returned to full training, although Mikel Arteta has suggested the Brazilian will take part in a private friendly before being reintegrated into competitive action.
Jesus has been unavailable since January following knee surgery.
Kai Havertz remains out as he continues his recovery from the knee operation he underwent in August.
With no recognised No. 9 available in Arsenal’s last three outings, Mikel Merino has been deployed up front.
The midfielder has impressed in the role, scoring twice against Slavia Prague and providing an assist in the north London derby.
However, Gyokeres’ impending return will be a welcome reinforcement for Arteta’s side.
