Super Eagles winger, Ademola Lookman, expressed his delight after Atletico Madrid secured a 2-0 victory over Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.
Julian Alvarez opened the scoring with a well-taken free-kick, and Alexander Sorloth doubled the lead with 20 minutes remaining, giving Atletico a strong chance of reaching the semifinals.
Despite Barcelona’s attacking threat, Lookman praised the team’s defensive discipline and overall performance, saying, “It was a good result, the performance of the team, especially not to concede here. It shows the work everyone’s been doing and the togetherness.”
He highlighted key moments in the match, including Barca’s red card and the timing of the goals, adding, “Brilliant free-kick from Julián (Alvarez) and also the timing of Alex’s (Alexander Sørloth) goal in the second half was also good.”
Lookman acknowledged the challenge of facing a top team but expressed confidence in the squad’s unity and focus, noting, “Difficult moments but we dug in together. It’s going to be a massive challenge, massive game… Calm heads, for sure. We’ll take each game as it comes. It has been nice, it has been great actually, long may it continue.”
This marked the second meeting between the two sides in just two weeks, following Atletico’s Copa del Rey semifinal victory over Barcelona in March.
