Benfica is set to face Real Madrid after the draw for the Champions League last 16 and knockout play-offs was concluded.
One of the most intriguing fixtures of the round will see the Portuguese giants go up against the Spanish powerhouse.
The two clubs previously met on the final day of the league phase, where Jose Mourinho’s Benfica triumphed 4-2 at home in Portugal.
That stunning victory allowed Benfica to sneak into the play-offs, while denying Real Madrid an automatic place in the Round of 16.
The draw paired clubs based on their final positions in the league phase, creating seeded and unseeded pots.
Teams that finished ninth to 16th were placed in the seeded group, while those ranked 17th to 24th formed the unseeded group.
The full play-off draw is as follows:
Borussia Dortmund vs Atalanta
Olympiacos vs Bayer Leverkusen
Galatasaray vs Juventus
Club Brugge vs Atletico Madrid
Monaco vs PSG
Qarabag vs Newcastle
Benfica vs Real Madrid
Bodo/Glimt vs Inter Milan
The knockout play-offs are scheduled for February 17-18 and February 24-25, with the Round of 16 set for March 10-11 and March 17-18.
Benfica will look to replicate their league-day heroics as they aim to advance to the main draw and challenge Europe’s elite clubs.
