Atalanta were forced to settle for a goalless draw at home against Slavia Prague in their Champions League clash on Wednesday, following a match filled with missed chances and outstanding goalkeeping displays from both sides.
The Italian side now have four points after previously losing 4-0 to champions Paris Saint-Germain and edging Club Brugge 2-1, while Slavia sit on two points, having drawn 2-2 with Bodo/Glimt and lost 3-0 to Inter Milan.
Atalanta started brightly, with Odilon Kossounou racing through on goal only to fire straight at Slavia goalkeeper Jakub Markovic, who also parried away a long-range strike from Charles De Ketelaere moments later.
Markovic was again alert to deny Nikola Krstovic from close range, while Atalanta keeper Marco Carnesecchi produced an excellent stop to thwart David Moses just before halftime.
Carnesecchi later kept out a Lukas Provod free kick, and substitute Kamaldeen Sulemana missed a golden opportunity when he broke through one-on-one with the keeper.
Fellow substitute Gianluca Scamacca also saw a late effort saved by Markovic, as both teams were left frustrated after a tense but entertaining stalemate.
Atalanta will next visit Olympique de Marseille, while Slavia Prague will host Arsenal in their upcoming group fixture.
