Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua set for 1am ringwalk in UK

Former heavyweight champions Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are expected to make their ringwalk after 1am local time when they meet at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on December 11.

The highly anticipated heavyweight clash, which will be broadcast on Netflix, is scheduled to take place in the early hours of Saturday morning despite being provisionally billed for Friday, December 11.

The development follows an application by the stadium to Cardiff Council seeking an extension of its licence to host the bout beyond the current permitted time for boxing and wrestling events.
Under the existing regulations, venues can host boxing and wrestling entertainment only until 1am.

However, the application seeks permission to extend the licence until 3am for boxing and wrestling entertainment, alcohol sales and late-night refreshments.

If approved, the stadium would remain open until 3.30am, allowing the fight to begin at a time designed to attract a larger television audience in the United States.

There had previously been efforts to move the bout to the US.

Fury, 38, and Joshua, 36, signed contracts to fight in 2026 in April, but the location and date remained uncertain for several months before Cardiff was confirmed as the venue last month.

Joshua’s contract reportedly required the fight to take place in the United Kingdom, with Wembley Stadium initially expected to host the contest.

Dublin, Las Vegas and New York were also considered before Cardiff was selected.

The latest licence application, if approved, would also extend the permitted hours for live and recorded music at the stadium by two hours on the same date.

Members of the public and relevant authorities have until November 3 to submit objections to or support the application, which must be advertised for 28 consecutive days.
