The Ogun State Government has confirmed that two foreign nationals were among those who lost their lives in a fatal road accident involving world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The accident occurred on Monday around the Makun axis of the expressway in Ogun State while Joshua and others were travelling from Lagos to Sagamu.

According to preliminary findings, the sport utility vehicle conveying the boxer and his team rammed into a stationary truck on the highway.

In a statement issued by the state government, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, described the incident as tragic and deeply painful.

“Motorists are advised to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, while road safety officers and other security agencies are enjoined to intensify surveillance and enforcement across the state to safeguard lives and property,” the statement said.

The government prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and wished those injured a speedy recovery, while asking God to grant the families left behind the strength to bear the loss.
