Trump receives South Korea’s top honour, golden crown

The United president was showered with honors during his visit to South Korea on Wednesday, receiving the country’s highest award along with a replica of a historic golden crown.

South Korean President, Lee Jae Myung, presented Trump with the Grand Order of Mugunghwa in recognition of his efforts to promote peace between North and South Korea.

Trump described the honor as a “great honor” and said, “I would like to wear it right now.”

Trump’s visit marked the final leg of his Asia tour, where he attended the Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Gyeongju.

During the trip, he announced that Seoul and Washington had “pretty much” reached a trade deal.

“We reached a deal. We did a lot of different things. Great session,” he told reporters, according to the White House pool report. “We came to a conclusion on a lot of very different items,” he added.

As Trump arrived in South Korea, North Korea conducted a series of cruise missile tests.

“They’ve been launching missiles for decades. It’s another missile that was launched,” the president said when asked about the move.

Although Trump has repeatedly suggested a possible meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during his Asia tour, it remains uncertain whether a summit will occur.

“We have a good understanding of each other,” Trump said, noting that the two leaders last met in 2019 during denuclearization talks.
