Tribunal sacks Enugu Reps member, declares LP candidate winner

A House of Representatives tribunal has nullified the election of Simon Atigwe, member representing Igboeze North/Udenu federal constituency, Enugu State and declared Dennis Nnamdi Agbo of the Labour Party the rightful winner.

In a ruling on Wednesday, the tribunal found that the rerun election held on February 3rd, 2024, was marred by irregularities, including incorrect computation of results and non-compliance with the electoral act.

The tribunal’s decision overturns the earlier declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission that Atigwe had won the election with 23,863 votes, ahead of Agbo who secured 23,226 votes, according to Daily Post.

The tribunal’s ruling restores the original votes from the February 25th, 2023 election, which gives Agbo a total of 28,870 votes, ahead of Atigwe’s 14,229 votes.

The certificate of return will be withdrawn from Atigwe and issued to Agbo, the tribunal declared.
