President Bola Tinubu has left Paris, France, for Nigeria after concluding his working vacation.
Tinubu is expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, later on Tuesday, according to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The President is scheduled to spend several days in Lagos, where he is expected to meet political leaders and associates as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Onanuga said Tinubu chose to return through Lagos partly to honour the late Chief MKO Abiola, who was widely regarded as the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
“On Independence Day, the President will attend the premiere of a movie honouring Abiola, the winner of the June 1993 election, at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos,” the statement said.
Tinubu left Abuja on August 30 for his working vacation, spending about a week in London before travelling to Paris.
During his stay in France, the President attended a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and held meetings with business figures.
Among those he met was Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group, whose interests include Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music Group.
He also met the Chairman of First Holdings, Femi Otedola, on Monday.
Last week, Tinubu witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the development of a deep seaport in Ogun Waterside and the establishment of a Blue Marine Economic Zone.
The statement said DP World plans to invest $7bn in the proposed projects.
Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja after completing his engagements in Lagos.
Onanuga said the President’s Lagos visit would combine political consultations with activities marking Nigeria’s Independence Day.
