A former Minister of Women Affairs and Youth Development during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, Hajia Aishatu Ismail, has expressed disappointment with the Bola Tinubu-led government, stating that it has failed to deliver on its promises.
The former minister lamented that the current administration has worsened the already challenging situation, contrary to expectations.
She said that she is confused with the way things are going on she because the government made numerous promises, claiming to understand the people’s problems and pledging to address them.
However, without proper investigation, consultation, or understanding of the issues, the government has made decisions that have had devastating impacts on people’s lives.
She stressed that it is unclear whether they are retracting their initial decisions or proceeding with the harmful policies implemented at the onset of their administration, according to Politics Nigeria.
She said, “It was really bad before the coming of this government. Now, I don’t know what to call it. There has to be an improvement with the coming of a new administration. But there is nothing like that.
“These are people who have made promises, who had said at elections that “I understand your problems, I am going to try and do something about it,” and then the government comes and without any proper investigation on any of the issues, without consultation and without really, really being on the ground, the government takes some decisions that have become horrendous in terms of their impacts on the lives of the people.
“That is why I say I am a bit confused. I don’t know whether they are withdrawing from those decisions that they took during the early days of the administration or they are going forward with the decisions that they took immediately the government came into power.”
