Three dead, five rescued as bus plunges into River in Oyo

At least three people have died, while five others were rescued after a passenger bus plunged into the Ariyo River along Amuloko Road in Ibadan, Oyo State, authorities confirmed on Thursday.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Mr Maroof Akinwande, said the agency received a distress call on Wednesday from Mrs Fadeke Yusuf and immediately dispatched personnel to the scene.

“Upon arrival, we met a Suzuki bus with registration number LEW 484 XA (Osun) carrying eight passengers, which lost control and crashed into the river,” Akinwande stated.

He added, “Five persons were rescued alive and taken to Ona-Ara Private Hospital in the Jegede area, while three bodies were recovered and handed over to policemen from the Ogbere Divisional Headquarters, led by ASP Aishat Ibrahim.”
The fire service chairman attributed the accident to reckless driving and urged motorists to observe traffic rules to prevent similar incidents.
