Theatre practitioners debunk death rumour of veteran actor Lere Paimo

The Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners has dismissed rumours circulating on social media claiming that iconic Yoruba actor and cultural figure, Chief Olalere Osunpaimo, popularly known as Baba Eda Onile Ola, has passed away.

In a statement released on Saturday and signed by the association’s National Public Relations Officer, Adejonwo Oluwafemi, the ANTP confirmed that the veteran actor is alive and in stable condition.

“We would like to inform the public that reports circulating on Facebook about the passing of Chief Olalere OsunPaimo are false,” the association stated.

“We have confirmed with Baba Eda Onile Ola’s wife that he is alive and in good health.

The ANTP condemned the spread of the rumour, describing those behind it as individuals who thrive on misinformation.

“Please disregard these false reports and be aware that they are being spread by unscrupulous individuals,” the statement added.

The association urged Nigerians to always verify information before sharing, especially on social media where misinformation spreads quickly.

“We urge everyone to verify information before sharing to avoid spreading misinformation,” Oluwafemi said.
