Super Eagles’ Osimhen, Nwabali, nominated for CAF Awards

Super Eagles stars, Victor Osimhen and Stanley Nwabali, alongside Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bameyi, have earned nominations for the 2025 CAF Awards in the men’s category.

Osimhen, who clinched a domestic double with Galatasaray last season, makes a return to Africa’s top 10 players after missing out in 2024 when compatriot Ademola Lookman claimed the crown.

The forward recently played a key role in helping Nigeria secure a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs, delivering a standout display in the final round of qualifiers.

Chippa United shot-stopper Stanley Nwabali, another Super Eagles hero, will once again vie for the Goalkeeper of the Year award after making last year’s shortlist.

He faces stiff competition from South Africa’s Ronwen Williams and Cameroon’s Andre Onana.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s U-20 captain Daniel Bameyi has been listed among the contenders for the Young Player of the Year category, following his impressive performances at the last AFCON and the recent FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

CAF also unveiled nominees for other categories, including Interclub Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, National Team of the Year, and Club of the Year.

The 2025 CAF Awards ceremony, scheduled to hold later this year in Morocco, will celebrate players, coaches, and teams whose performances stood out between 6 January and 15 October 2025.

A panel comprising CAF Technical & Development Committee members, veteran coaches, CAF Legends, and selected journalists determined the final shortlist of ten nominees per category based on overall performance in both domestic and international competitions.
