Stray elephant kills farmer in Ogun

Panic gripped residents of Imobi in Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State on Tuesday after a wandering elephant from a government forest reserve reportedly attacked and killed a farmer.

The Commissioner for Forestry in Ogun State, Taiwo Oludotun, confirmed the incident in a brief interview with journalists, noting that authorities were already mobilizing to the affected area.

“Yes, we are aware of the incident, and we are already on our way to the community to assess the situation,” Oludotun said.

Although details remain sketchy as of press time, the incident has raised concerns over wildlife management and the safety of communities bordering forest reserves in the state.

Residents described the event as shocking and unprecedented in recent times. One community member, who asked not to be named, said, “We’ve never seen anything like this before. The elephant just appeared from the forest and the next thing we heard was that someone had been killed.”
