Newly appointed Juventus manager, Luciano Spalletti, has expressed confidence that the Serie A title remains within reach for the Turin giants despite their current position.
The Old Lady trail league leaders Napoli by six points, the same club Spalletti led to their first Scudetto in 33 years, but the veteran coach believes his new team still has what it takes to compete for silverware.
Speaking at his unveiling on Friday, Spalletti explained that his decision to accept an eight-month contract was driven by his belief in Juventus’ potential.
“I hope we can get back and be involved in the race for the Scudetto,” the former Italy boss said during his introductory press conference.
“That is what we were discussing with the players yesterday. We must aim for the top, and in this case, the top is the title race.
“Nine games have been played, still 29 to go. That’s a lot of games. I’ve seen everything in my over 30-year career.
“I don’t see why I should settle for less. I have absolute respect for the quality of these players.”
Spalletti will take charge of his first match on Saturday when Juventus face eighth-placed Cremonese.
